Virginia was born
and raised in Austin, the self proclaimed (and rightly justified), Dance has always played an important part in her life. At the age of six she began dancing tap and ballet. In her teens she was a member of Crockett High School's Ballet Folklorico. She studied and danced Middle Eastern dance for eight years with her mentor and teacher, Zhelen. She has also danced and competed in local Latin Dance competitions. She and her partner always placed as one of the top three finalists. Virginia's interest in Flamenco was sparked by a movie (El Amor Brujo) and travel (her other passion). On one of her travels to Spain, she specifically set out for Sevilla to take in the Flamenco scene. She was hooked. In the summer of 1999 she found Sheila McPherson teaching Flamenco at the Dougherty Arts Center at Austin and began taking classes. Virginia has also studied with several renowned Flamenco artists including
Sylvia Keprta, a member of Jose Greco dance troup and founder and former
instructor of the Estampa Española Dance Academy. She has studied
with such Spanish luminaries as Andrés Marín , Omayra Amaya
and Belen Maya as well as West Coast artists' La Monica, La Tania, and
La Fibi. In Austin Virginia studied with Genevieve Guinn and Theresa Goldbach.
She continues her Flamenco education with Sheila McPherson.
