La Fibi is one of San Francisco’s premier flamenco dancers. She has been studying, teaching, and performing flamenco for 19 years. She was born in Hollywood to Actor/Dancer parents and was raised in New York City, Hollywood, San Francisco and Virginia. La Fibi grew up on the road with her mother, a professional middle eastern dancer, and was surrounded by the world of show business, and live Arabic music from the earliest age, performing on stage at the age of four. She has studied in Spain and in the U.S. She began her formal flamenco dance training with the gypsy maestra Rosa Montoya, where she was a company dancer with
Montoya’s BAILE FLAMENCOS. She has toured nationally many times and has toured with the companies of LA TANIA FLAMENCO MUSIC & DANCE and the acclaimed MARIA BENITEZ SPAINISH DANCE COMPANY. As well as a soloist in the SAN FRANCISCO ETHNIC DANCE FESTIVAL. She has worked for six years at the popular Latin supper club, SOL Y LUNA, in downtown San Francisco. Where she was a core member of GRUPO SOL Y LUNA, a traditional flamenco cuadro, and as a singer, percussionist, and dancer with SOL Y LUNA, a rumba/flamenco/salsa fusion band. Their CD is available at TOWER RECORDS. The group performed at the GREAT AMERICAN MUSIC HALL, and dozens of festivals and events with audiences in the thousands, & with the Nuevo Flamenco Guitarist OTTMAR LEIBERT. La Fibi has appeared as a featured soloist with virtually every Bay Area flamenco dance company. Since 1993 she has worked with AIRE FLAMENCO, a Sonoma County based flamenco group. Since 1998 she has been working extensively in San Francisco with ARTE COMPAS, under the artistic direction of LA MONICA & appears regularly at Timo’s Restaurant & at La Tasca in the Mission District.
